Sustainability Support for the King’s Coronation Concert 2023
As a trusted sustainability partner for BBC Studio Events we have supported their teams on numerous projects over the past 5 years; such as The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, The Festival of Remembrance, The 2023 Eurovision Song Contest, D-Day 80, Antiques Roadshow and The Earthshot Prize in 2021 and 2022, to meet and exceed their sustainability targets.
For the 2023 Coronation Concert, BBC Studios Events engaged us to provide comprehensive sustainability support. As a large-scale, high-profile event, ensuring an environmentally responsible approach was critical. The client sought expertise in developing sustainability strategies, managing event impacts, and aligning operations with best practices.
Role: Strategic Sustainability Consultant
Objective: To achieve integrated sustainability practices into all aspects of event production, minimise carbon footprint, and provide transparent reporting on the events environmental impact.
KEY ACTIONS:
Strategic Planning & Guidelines:
Developed a Green Memo and sustainability guidelines for Outside Broadcasts (OBs), Sing, and general event operations.
Tracking & Reporting:
Created a sustainability tracker, model footprint, and impact reports to monitor and assess environmental performance.
Operational & Production Support:
Provided waste management and concessions plans, supported OB strategy, and facilitated sustainability efforts in event production.
Stakeholder & Supplier Engagement:
Delivered supplier workshops, issued talent guidelines, and ensured alignment across key stakeholders.
Meetings & Site Visits:
Weekly stakeholder meetings, alongside site visits to oversee sustainability implementation.
Data & Reporting:
Carbon footprint modeling, data collection through Albert, and delivered both a summary press report and a full event impact report.
